5 Must Do Activities Close to Granville House - London Kings Cross

Updated: Feb 9, 2022

Granville House, just 10 minutes from Kings Cross, benefits from being in the best city on the planet - London. We’re not biased at all. Whatever your plans are for visiting the capital, here are some of the best things to see and do whilst you’re here in London.

No. 1

The Connaught Bar

Not only is London the best city in the world, but it also plays host to some of its best establishments too.

Take a trip down to Mayfair, one of London’s most exclusive neighbourhoods, and amongst all the Michelin star restaurants and luxury boutiques you will find The Connaught Hotel which lays claim to the best bar in the world for two consecutive years. Here, their master mixologists will create your very own custom cocktail right before your eyes as you take in the elegant candlelit 1920s style bar.

No. 2

Shopping

Whether you’re just browsing, or on a mission to find that perfect dress for your date at The Connaught Bar, London is guaranteed to wow you with its endless streets of amazing shops and department stores.

Hop on the Victoria Line from Kings Cross to Oxford Street station and you will emerge onto one of London’s premiere shopping streets. Crossed with Regent Street, where you’ll find the world’s best toy store, Hamleys, do make sure to look up at the gorgeous lights that straddle the sky at Christmas. Just round the corner is colourful Carnaby Street, home to scores of independent lifestyle and fashion retailers.

Need to find a pair of heels to match that stunning outfit you picked out? Make your way to Harrods in Knightsbridge and discover all the glamorous boutiques that fill its historic walls.

No. 3

Camden Market

Head north and discover the eclectic collection of street vendors at London’s craziest street market. Here you will find a warren of stalls selling the finest street food, handmade curiosities, and vintage fashion. Famed for its counterculture, there’s nowhere better to experience the glory days of the Punk Rock era or new age indie lifestyle.

Stroll through the Camden Lock Market, the place where it all started back in 1972, filled with independent makers. Then, explore the winding streets of The Stables Market where you will find more boho stores such as the original Cyberdog, a trance music clothing chain featuring colourful and fluorescent dance clothing.

No. 4

Brick Lane

This vibrant centre for art and fashion has seen big changes over the last 30 years. Brick Lane is synonymous with the street art movement, with works by the world-renowned Banksy, Stik, and Omar Hassan all featuring. The art is constantly evolving as new works are created and others are covered so there will always be something new for every visit.

Following an influx of Bengali settlers in the 20th century, Brick Lane also has some of the best Anglo-Indian food this side of the Caspian Sea! We recommend the award-winning City Spice or Sheba for a dinner that will leave you wanting to come back again and again.

No. 5

St Pauls Cathedral at night

Once you’ve gorged yourself on one too many Shingara at City Spice, you’ll need to walk it off, and what better place to do that than the shores of the River Thames.

You can make your way from the Tower of London, home to the Crown Jewels, taking in Tower Bridge and heading west along the shore. Marvel at the impressive height of The Shard (the tallest building in the UK), making sure not to miss the cluster of distinctive skyscrapers that adorn the skyline of the City of London to the north.

Keep walking and you will discover the striking Shakespeare’s Globe, a faithful reconstruction of the original theatre from the time of Queen Elizabeth I. Located next to the theatre in the former Bankside Power Station and starkly contrasting its neighbour, is one of London’s greatest art galleries, The Tate Modern.

Finally, heading north and back into the city, your eyes will be treated to one of the greatest views in London. Standing proud of the surrounding buildings will be St Pauls Cathedral, lit up to show it in all its glory against the inky night sky. As one of London’s most recognisable structures, its dome remains among one of the highest in the world.
